Will Things Get Better or Worse?

We are living in the midst of some difficult days. Millions have lost their jobs and homes. Millions are without health care. No longer are U.S. companies or our students the best and the brightest in the world.  Our financial institutions are failing and our government is trillions of dollars in debt. Yet the eyes of the nation are looking to our government leaders to bail us out through an economic stimulus bill.

Though we are U.S. citizens, we are also citizens of heaven who are awaiting our Savior Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20). So let us not put our hope in this world but to put our hope firmly in God. Let us remember that our God reigns (Psalm 103:19). He has promised to provide for His children and His supply has not been affected by the economy (Philippians 4:19). Though everything around us will be shaken, He reminds us that His kingdom cannot be shaken (Hebrews 12:28).

Do we really believe God? Or have we begun to look to other sources just as those having no hope and without God in the world? If we should lose all of our possessions, our health and even our lives, we still have a living hope because Jesus Christ has risen from the dead (I Peter 1:3-5; Revelation 21:1-4). For those of us who know Christ things will get better.

But what about those who do not know Christ? Their primary problem is that they are separated from God because of their sin and deserving of His wrath (Isaiah 59:2; Romans 3:23, 6:23a). The economy could turn around and many could get new and better jobs, new homes, make lots of money and live a long healthy life and still have things turn out for them far worse in the end (Luke 9:25;Revelation 20:11-15).

Mankind's greatest need is the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life with God through Jesus Christ. Let us be bold in taking this message to the world.
